Imladris. One of the remaining refuges of the Elves in Middle-Earth, renowned as the Last Homely House West of the Mountains and East of the Sea. Established by Elrond Half-elven in the Second Age of Middle-Earth, Imladris (or Rivendell as it is known to the race of Men) is situated in a valley at the foothills of the Misty Mountains and has long since stood as a bastion of peace and safety against the forces of darkness. In The Hobbit Bilbo Baggins visited Imladris while journeying with Gandalf and the Dwarves to the Lonely Mountain, and of course it was to Imladris that Frodo Baggins, Strider and company escaped after fleeing the Nazgûl across the Ford of Bruinen in The Fellowship of the Ring.
Imladris is the server I play on as Candle, and while browsing the Auction House there I stumbled upon this helmet. The Helm of Imladris. Well, with such an official piece of merchandise I simply had to buy it and create an outfit for a Rivendell Elf. It was a little difficult to find armour pieces that matched this helmet’s colour exactly. It’s quite a dark shade of grey, yet from certain angles it lightens considerably. I tried to compromise with some darker and some shinier pieces, all of course smothered in the appropriate Rivendell Green dye. I was reluctant to add shoulders to this outfit because the arms of the chest piece are so beautifully detailed. Yet it seemed incomplete without them so I compromised once more by leaving the back bare, allowing the patterns there to be shown off.
Though intricate in some details, this outfit was surprisingly easy to put together. None of my toons are Metalsmiths so crafting Heavy Armour is sometimes difficult for me, especially when the Auction House is being less than kind. As it was then, I took to the armour vendors at the Skirmish Camp where many of these pieces can be bartered very cheaply. The end result was, I hope, a nice combination giving the feeling of a captain of Rivendell, sworn to protect the Elven valley from all incursions.
