Boo…! The Farmer’s Faire has been delayed. I know a lot of my fellow outfitters have been looking forward to this new event, but the delay does give us some time to think up some suitable outfits. I didn’t want to do the obvious thing and throw together a Straw Hat and a Thatcher’s Shirt from the Skirmish Camp, an hey presto a stereotypical farmer’s outfit in all of five seconds. Not only has it been done to death, it really doesn’t suit Candle’s Elvish frame. Certainly there must be Elvish farmers, but I doubt they’re of the type that populate the Shire. After all, didn’t Galadriel sing “of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew?” I decided, then, to create an outfit befitting an Elvish gardener travelling throughout the land, visiting gardens and farms for new growing techniques, while on his way to the Shire to take part in the festivities. It is a faire, after all, and sure to attract green-fingered Free Peoples from all over Middle-Earth.
I mentioned in another post that I had a recent windfall of success in the Auction House. This robe was one of those finds. Apparently it can be picked up from gift boxes during the Anniversary, but I’ve never seen it before. It has lovely threading detail, embroidery and gold clasps, which I felt elevated above a simple ranger’s robe. However, to ensure I stayed away from that theme, I tried to keep it grounded, (pun very much intended), with lumpy shoes instead of boots, green accents and a jaunty travelling cap and backpack. I also added some fancy shoulders with a pretty leaf motif to keep things suitably Elvish. Not forgetting, of course, Candle the gardener’s trusty shovel. Not only a good luck charm for a bountiful crop, but also a handy means of warding off any brigands he may encounter in his travels.
Above you can see our intrepid horticulturist meeting some friendly Hobbits in the gardens of Duillond, and learning all about the upcoming Farmer’s Faire. Onto the Shire then, and bring on the festivities!
